PC building can be a very engaging and fun activity. However, there are multiple things that one needs to make a note of and keep in mind. One mistake can make the whole system get shot down. Booting a newly built PC for the first time comes with a sense of satisfaction. There are multiple mistakes that can be made in the process of PC building. The mistakes mentioned in this article are common, but people are still making them in 2021.
Don't Choose Incompatible Parts
Choosing parts is very important in a PC build. The first thing that needs to be kept in mind is the processor. Every PC building part that you choose should be compatible with your processor. Intel processors are the right choice right now, keeping in mind the supply and prices. Processors like the Intel Core i3 10100F and Intel Core i5 10400F can run efficiently on motherboards that are cheaper than B450. The B450 motherboards are costly and would not help with the mentioned processors because they don't generate much heat and won't be able to utilize the VRM sections of the motherboard. RAM is another aspect of the build. Most Intel processors support lower frequency of RAMs, therefore, going with 3200mHZ or even 3400mHz RAM will not be a good idea as the processor will down clock it. You will not be able to get the best performance of the RAM. Therefore, it is very important to choose components that are compatible with the processor.
Not Enabling XMP Profile
What does enabling the XMP Profile do? If you are using a higher frequency RAM like 3200mHz or 3400mHz, the newly built PC might not be able to run it in on that frequency. When the XMP profile is disabled, the RAM might run on 2100mHz or 2400mHz. This is not the optimum performance that the RAM can deliver. Therefore, it is very important for users to enable the profile on startup. How do you do that? On starting your PC for the first time, jump into your Bios and go to overall settings. There you can enable the XMP profile and enjoy the speed of the RAM.
Opting for Cheap PSU
PSUs or power supply units are a very important components of a PC Build. The PSU delivers power to the system and should be able to generate enough power for the whole system to work. Most people, in order to keep the budget of the PC in check, cheap out on the power supply. Going with a cheaper or low-quality PSU can make your system experience a short circuit. This can ruin the whole system and put your PC at risk of never working again. Essential components like the CPU and the GPU can be at risk of getting damaged permanently. A cheap PSU is like a ticking time bomb that can explode at any time and cost you your entire PC.
Getting Dual-Channel Wrong
Dual-channel RAM boosts the performance of the PC. However, not everyone gets the drill right. If you put the 2 RAM sticks in slots 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, you are doing it wrong. When you are building a PC for the first time, the manual is your best friend. Refer to the manual and put the RAM sticks in dual channel slots. This will actually boost the performance of the PC.
Don't Forget to Switch On The Power Supply
There have been times when you build your PC and then sit down to start for the first time, it won't start. This is a freaking moment. However, this is just the result of a careless mistake. Most of the time, we forget to switch on the PSU. Don't make this mistake, make sure you switch on the PSU.
These mistakes sound very silly, but can cost you your PC. Be on the lookout and avoid them.
